Understanding my Portfolio

I really tried to have my portfolio reflect who I am as an individual. Lots of neutral, yet warm colors with photos that reflect my hobbies and interests. I did this because I wanted to ensure my viewers have a sense of who I am before they start to read! I would say there is not a super direct correlation between all of the pieces I wrote besides the fact that they were all written for DU Courses to be graded. A couple of the pieces are reflection pieces and a couple are creative fiction pieces. I chose to represent myself with these pieces because I felt like they were my strongest pieces as a writer.

I could see myself potentially using this writing portfolio in my future. Since I want to be a teacher, it could be a good way to show parents of my students who I am as a writer and person so they would be able to have a better understanding of who is working with their child. I think I would add more pieces, and maybe pieces that are less academic to ensure I have the right material for 1st grade parents. I feel like maybe adding future personal pieces would benefit that if I were to go ahead and use this in the upcoming years.

I feel as though the most beneficial part of making this portfolio has been reflecting on my academic learning here at DU. It forced me to go through old folders on my computer that I had not looked at since Freshman year and allowed me to really see the transformation that I went through as a writer. This was really cool to see because it is not something that happens everyday for me. I was able to take a step back from the grades I had received and actually be proud of this progress.
